Welcome to In Arcadia Ego!
In Arcadia Ego is a narrative tabletop role-playing game for experienced GMs/Narrators. Each player takes the role of a regular person who, for some reason, has recently become Something Else – something we like to call an Arcadian. What is an Arcadian? Well, in fact, pretty much anything they can imagine, from a Bram Stoker-style Vampire to a creature of pure Mathematics made flesh, an Ancient God reborn or a fictional character become real.
If you are familiar with non-narrative role-playing games, you might In Arcadia Ego somewhat unusual. For instance, In Arcadia Ego does not have a fixed setting. Rather, the game invites the players, rather than the GM, to setup the start of the story, then to evolve the setting as the story progresses. Similarly, individual sessions in In Arcadia Ego typically start with the players deciding where their characters are and where they are heading. Don’t worry, you should get used to this very quickly – this game will give you all the questions you need to proceed.
A typical campaign of In Arcadia Ego takes the form of initiatic journey. New Arcadians, for instance, will try and come to terms with their new nature, will learn about the existence of other Arcadians and forge relationships with them, and progress towards a Quest of their own choosing, while attempting to identify and battle a threat to their existence. Each step of the journey will teach the Arcadians something about themselves, or about other Arcadians, or about the nature of the universe. Each step of the journey will lead them towards the next step.
